about
Nicolonias is the pseudonym of multidisciplinary artist and student Nicolas Januario (he/him). Raised in Baltimore, Nicolonias developed an interest in sound design and photography during the CoVid-19 pandemic as a result of sheer boredom.
A lover of nature, unconventional tunes, philosophy, and graphic design; his work is influenced by a critical process of immediate gratification and aesthetic pleasure. As a firm believer in the here and now, his music represents a rejection of artistic intentionality and preplanning, opting for a more spontaneous realization of melodies as a reflection of his current experience and momentary phenomenology.
Nicolonias, like every other human, is a conduit of waves; constantly receiving physical energies with no apparent meaning, but uniquely capable of harmonizing them into sounds and lights that may make revelatory sense to someone else. Additionally equipped with a keen eye for natural and slice-of-life moments, his favorite photos incorporate birds/wildlife as symbols of divine bodily autonomy and people as symbols of epistemological mortal anonymity. The other pictures just happened to make the cut because he thought they were nice to look at.
Recognizing the importance of self-expression in a virtually atomized society, his endeavors have since expanded to include graphic design and writing: fields that further allow him to explore his interests in the visual arts and existential commentary.
